In 2019-20, changes were made to the University’s usual assessment processes to mitigate the academic impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.
When classifiying awards, students affected by the changes in 2019-20 will have their marks from that year considered by Boards of Examiners in an additional process of individual consideration to take into account the exceptional arrangements made during that period.
The process for consideration of marks for these students will be as follows:
- The Board of Examiners will be provided with information on how the Part Average obtained in 2019-20 has been calculated.
- The Board of Examiners will consider the final degree classification obtained by the contributing Parts to the award through the standard classification algorithm for the programme.
- For each student, the initial classification obtained through the standard classificaton algorithm for the programme will be given individual consideration by the Board of Examiners based on the component marks gained through assessment in the 2019-20 academic year. Boards of Examiners will retain discretion to raise the classification of an award to the next highest class for any student where they find evidence to support such a decision from the student’s 2019/20 marks profile.
