This is the new Consultancy Policy, approved on the 19th June 2012 and replaces the previous policy from 2006.
The University of Southampton is an enterprising organisation and seeks to release the talents of our staff for the benefit of the economy and society as a whole.
Consultancy is one type of enterprise activity and is recognised as a valuable mechanism for facilitating knowledge and technology transfer through which the University of Southampton believes it can contribute to creating economic and social impact.
The current Consultancy Policy was approved on 19th June 2012 and replaces the policy originally established in May 2006.
The Consultancy Policy provides guidance on who is eligible to consult, explains the four main modes to undertake consultancy, outlines the approvals required, and summarises the respective obligations of individuals wishing to consult, the faculty and other professional services as well as reminds individuals of related policies that should be complied with when a consulting assignment is undertaken.
There are four key modes for conducting consultancy
Under the policy Faculties were required to develop a Faculty Statement which explains further how consultancy fits within its overall strategy, identify the Enterprise/Trading Units and/or Service Companies available for staff to use, distribution of funds and points of contact amongst other guidance. These Faculty statements were finalised and launched on 1st July 2013. If you have any further queries relating to this please contact the Associate Dean of your Faculty.
If you have any queries on consultancy please refer to the Faculty Statement or contact Research and Innovation Services Contracts Team. Staff in Professional Services should contact the relevant Director.
