Assessment |
|
4.1 |
The taught component is assessed under the University regulations for standalone masters programmes with additional requirements below. |
4.2 |
Students are required to obtain an overall average mark of 55% or above in their taught component in order to continue in the research phase of that programme. Students who have passed their taught component but did not achieve an overall average mark of 55% or above may choose to take an MSc as an exit award, provided they have met the requirements of the University regulations for standalone masters. |
4.3 |
Progress on the research component is monitored and assessed as specified in the University's Code of Practice for Research Candidature and Supervision and the programme guide. |
4.4 |
The final award of EngD is made on the basis of thesis and viva voce as for a PhD, see also the Regulations for Research degrees with a Major Taught Component. For those successfully progressing towards the final award, Year 1 provides a ‘progression milestone’ only, no intermediate award is made. |
4.5 |
Please refer to the relevant programme guide for further detail. |

As a research-led University, we undertake a continuous review of our programmes to ensure quality enhancement and to manage our resources. As a result, these regulations may be revised during a student’s period of registration, however, any revision will be balanced against the requirement that the student should receive the educational service expected. Please read our Disclaimer to see why, when and how changes may be made to a student’s programme. |
