Regulations for the Degree of Bachelor of Arts by Part-time Study
Regulations for full-time degrees are also applicable to part-time students, with the following exceptions:
Regulations
- A part-time degree course may be taken over a minimum of four and maximum of eight years of study, except for Single or combined Honours Modern Language degrees, for which the minimum is five years.**
- Each degree course will normally consist of 24 units, eight at each level (Year 1 level, Year 2 level and Final Year level). A minimum of two and a maximum of six units may be taken in each year of study. Combined Honours students may, however, be required to take at least two units in each year of study.
Part-time Degrees
- Students may take a minimum of two and a maximum of six Year 1 units in each year of study. They may not take a different unit as an alternative to a referred unit.
- Part-time students may chose to be re-examined/re-assessed in any failed unit whether or not they have reached the pass threshold but, subject to 'failures' (see above) such re-examination/re-assessment will only be allowed in late August/early September immediately following initial failure.
Individual course requirements apply equally to full-time and part-time students except that part-time students taking Single Honours Modern Languages degrees (or, exceptionally, BA Contemporary Europe or Combined Honours Modern Languages) will be required to spend a period abroad as agreed by the discipline.
** It is possible for the student to accelerate completion of the Degree by inserting one year of study on a full-time basis (but the total minimum period of study required would still be five years).
