- The course shall comprise the study and practice of education, and shall extend over one year unless it is combined with studies leading to a degree of the University in which case special regulations shall apply.
- Applicants for admission to the one-year course must hold the following:

Exceptionally, applicants with other qualifications approved by the Head of School may be accepted by the Programme Board.
- Subject to the approval of the Programme Board, candidates who have been unsuccessful in the examination may submit themselves for re-examination on one occasion only. The conditions for re-examination shall be prescribed by the Programme Board and, unless the Board permits otherwise, re-examination shall take place within twelve months of initial failure. Subject to the approval of the School Board, candidates who achieve an H level will be awarded a professional Graduate Certificate of Education.
- A list will be issued showing the names of successful candidates in alphabetical order.
- In extreme cases of trainee teacher misdemeanour on placement, where there is evidence that the presence of a trainee teacher is detrimental to the safety or progress of children, or evidence that the teacher has failed to establish effective working relationships with professional colleagues, a recommendation may be made for termination of the trainee teacher's registration on the Postgraduate Certificate of Education programme in accordance with procedures available from the School of Education.
