The General Academic Regulations which are in Section IV (General Academic Regulations) of the University Calendar apply to and regulate the programmes listed above.

On occasion, programmes can be exempted from one or more of the clauses in the General Academic Regulations, or one or more of the clauses can be varied.

  • Exemptions are characterised by the omission of the relevant clause.
  • Variations are characterised by the replacement of the clause with alternative wording.
The programmes listed have approval from the Academic Quality and Standards Committee for the exemptions and/or variations to the regulations noted below.

Additional requirements are also listed.


Exemptions
The clause(s) listed below describe where an exemption to the General Regulations exists.
 
  MChem Chemistry with 1 year placement in Part 3: Part 2 is exempt from Clause 3.4 of Section 3
  MChem with 6 months placement; MChem with Medicinal Sciences; MChem Chemistry with 1 year placement in Part 4: Part 3 are exempt from Clause 3.4 of Section 3 of the Progression, Determination and Classification of Results for Undergraduate and Integrated Masters Programmes.

The clause(s) listed below describe where a variation to the General Regulations exists.

The University standard Average Mark for a Part for undergraduate students on each Part of a programme is 40.
MChem Chemistry with 1 year-placement in Part 3 A candidate enrolled on this programme must achieve an average part mark of 60% at the end of Part I.

The University standard Average Mark for a Part for undergraduate students on each Part of a programme is 40.

MChem Chemistry with a six month placement
MChem Chemistry with Maths

MChem Chemistry with 1 year placement in Part 4
MSci Chemistry and Biochemistry
A candidate enrolled on these programmes must achieve an average part mark of 50% at the end of Part II.

Weighting of Parts: Part I work shall be excluded from the final degree classification. A weighting of 0:1:2 shall be used to obtain the Final Average Mark for the three Parts of an Honours degree programme, and a weighting of 0:1:2:2 for the four Parts of an integrated Masters programme. This is in addition to weighting by credit points (for example, where Parts III and IV do not contain the same number of credit points).
MChem Chemistry with a year long placement in Part 3 A weighting of 0:2:3:5 for the four Parts of this integrated Masters programme shall be used.

There are no additional requirements for these programmes.
