Reference should be made to the University's General Regulations found in Section IV and Section V (Higher Degree Regulations) of the University Calendar.

Except where an opt-out has been granted by the University (see below) the following academic regulations apply in addition to the General Regulations.

1. Admissions
 
1.1 Students are admitted to the University of Leeds for their first year of study. Thereafter students may transfer to Southampton or remain registered at Leeds. Students may enter the programme in January, April, July or October.
1.2 The normal entry requirement is a good honours degree in an appropriate subject. Suitable First or Upper Second Class equivalent qualifications would be considered for overseas/mature candidates, and applications are welcomed from those with relevant work experience.
1.3 In addition, students must have access to a personal computer at home or work with the following minimum specification:
  • 2.2 GHz Pentium 4, Core Duo, or Xeon Processor (or higher)
  • 2GB memory
  • 60GB hard disk
  • A broadband connection
1.4 The remaining parts of these regulations apply to Southampton registered students only. Leeds registered students should refer to that University's regulations.
1.5 Where modules completed by a student at other places of learning are considered to be equivalent to a relevant module of the programme, these will be treated in accordance with the University's Credit Accumulation and Transfer Scheme.


2. Structure of Programme(s)
 
2.1 The programme is studied part-time and consists of 8 modules and a dissertation. Part 1 (studied at the University of Leeds) consists of 4 core modules; thereafter should a student transfer to the University of Southampton, Part 2 consists of 2 core modules related to the stream or specialisation chosen by the student plus 2 further modules from anywhere within the curriculum; Part 3 consists of the dissertation.
2.2 The programme structure can be found on the programme specification.


3. Progression
 
3.1 Students must satisfy the regulations governing Progression, Determination and Classification of Results: Standalone Masters Programmes as set out in Section IV of the University Calendar.


4. Assessment
 
4.1 The programme is assessed entirely through coursework. The performance of students shall be assessed by the Board of Examiners in accordance with the regulations governing the Progression, Determination and Classification of Results: Standalone Masters Programmes as set out in Section IV of the University Calendar.
5. Award of Qualification(s)
 
5.1 Qualifications are awarded according to the regulations governing the Progression, Determination and Classification of Results: Standalone Masters Programmes as set out in Section IV of the University Calendar.


6. Placements/Study Abroad/Exchange/Fieldwork
 
Not applicable.


7. Other
 
7.1 As a research-led University, we undertake a continuous review of our programmes to ensure quality enhancement and to manage our resources. As a result, these regulations may be revised during a student’s period of registration, however, any revision will be balanced against the requirement that the student should receive the educational service expected. 7.2 In addition, while in Southampton the following regulation applies:

Students are required to satisfy the academic and the Attendance and Completion of Programme Requirements as set out in section IV of the University calendar, the programme specification and the programme handbook. Those failing to do so may have their programme terminated (see University Calendar Section IV: Transfer, Suspension, Withdrawal and Termination).
