Except where an opt-out has been granted by the University (see below) the following academic regulations apply in addition to the General Regulations.

Admissions |

1.1 |
The Programme follows the University regulations specified in Section IV : Regulations for Admission to Degree Programmes. Specific information regarding the entry requirement for the Law School programmes can be found on the Law School website. |
1.2 |
Specific information regarding the level of English proficiency required for each programme is included in the prospectus and on the Law School website. |
1.3 |
All individuals are selected and treated on their relative merits and abilities in line with the University's Equal Opportunities Policy. Disabled applicants will be treated according to the same procedure as any other applicant with the added involvement of the Enabling Services Office to assess their needs. |
1.4 |
Recognition of Prior Learning. If candidates have completed modules at other places of learning and can demonstrate the equivalence of their learning outcomes to a relevant module of the programme, the Law School may permit such a candidate to join a degree programme at an appropriate part. Such admissions must also comply with the University's regulations on credit transfer. |

2. |
Structure of Programme(s) |

2.1 |
Mode of attendance shall be by full time study only. |
2.2 |
Duration of 'normal' study shall be for LLB (Hons) and LLB (Hons) Maritime Law 3 years, LLB (Hons) (European Legal Studies) and (International Legal Studies) 4 years, LLB (Hons) (Accelerated) 2 years and LLB (Hons) (Accelerated) JD Pathway. |
2.3 |
A candidate for the degree of LLB (Hons) (European Legal Studies) or for the degree of LLB (Hons) (International Legal Studies) shall be required to follow a programme of study abroad for such period and under such conditions as may be approved by the School. Normally the programme of study abroad will last for one academic year following the second year of study. |
2.4 |
Programme structure and module information are detailed in the programme specification and on the Law School website.
- The LLB (Hons) comprises of four core modules 120 CATS/60 ECTS in Part 1and 2. Part 3 includes one 30 CATS/15 ECTS compulsory module (leading to submission of a 10,000 word dissertation) and 90 CATS of optional modules. The availability of optional modules is dependent on staffing and timetabling constraints, and it cannot be guaranteed that every option will be available in any particular year. Additional optional modules may be made available from time to time. It may be necessary to limit the number of candidates taking a particular module.
- The LLB (Hons) (Accelerated) programme comprises of four core modules 120 CATS/60 ECTS in Part 1, and 2. In addition to the core modules in Part 2 candidates must complete one 30 CATS/15 ECTS compulsory module (leading to submission of a 10,000 word dissertation).
- The LLB (Hons) (Accelerated) JD programme comprises of four core modules 120 CATS/60 ECTS in Part 1, and 2. In addition to the core modules in Part 2, candidates must complete a 15 CATS/7.5 ECTS core module on Canadian Constitutional Law and a 15 CATS/7.5 ECTS option module.
- All modules are taught throughout the academic year and those in Part 1 and 2 are required by the Law Society and the Bar Council to enable the degree to have 'Qualifying Law Degree' status, carrying exemption from the academic stage of qualification for admission to the Law Society or the Bar of England and Wales.

3. |
Progression |

3.1 |
The LLB programme follows the University's general progression rules as set out in Progression, Determination and Classification of Results: Undergraduate and Integrated Masters Programmes (University Calendar, Section IV), save that, all modules studied in Parts 1 and 2 are core and no compensation for failure is permitted. |
3.2 |
Candidates studying for the LLB (Hons) (European Legal Studies) or for the LLB (Hons) (International Legal Studies) degree will be required to have completed successfully the programme of study abroad to progress to the final Part of the degree. |

4. |
Assessment |

4.1 |
The performance of candidates shall be assessed by the Board of Examiners in accordance with the University's Regulations Governing Examinations, and are subject to confirmation by the School. |
4.2 |
A student who fails to progress under paragraphs 3.1 to 3.3 of section 3 of the Progression Regulations in Section IV of the University Calendar may take Referral assessments in failed modules totalling not more than 60 CATS (30 ECTS). |

Award of Qualification(s) |

6. |
Placements/Study Abroad/Exchange/Fieldwork |

6.1 |
Students, who apply to study the LLB (Hons) (European Legal Studies) with good language skills and would like to study law in another European jurisdiction, at the end of year two, will spend a full academic year overseas at one of several designated universities within the EU. They must successfully complete the academic requirements of that year as set down by the Institution of study and will then return to the UK to complete their final year, which is the same as the core LLB. |
6.2 |
Similarly students who apply to study the LLB (Hons) (International Legal Studies) will follow the same structure as above but will chose to study at a designated University. |

7.1 |
As a research-led University, we undertake a continuous review of our programmes to ensure quality enhancement and to manage our resources. As a result, these regulations may be revised during a student’s period of registration, however, any revision will be balanced against the requirement that the student should receive the educational service expected. 7.2 |
Students are required to satisfy the academic and the Attendance and Completion of Programme Requirements as set out in section IV of the University calendar, the programme specification and the programme handbook. Those students failing to do so may have their course terminated (see University Calendar Section IV: Transfer, Suspension, Withdrawal and Termination). Attendance may be monitored. |
