Reference should be made to the University's General Regulations found in Section IV and Section V (Higher Degree Regulations) of the University Calendar.

Except where an opt-out has been granted by the University (see below) the following academic regulations apply in addition to the General Regulations.

1. Admissions

Candidates for admission must satisfy the Regulations for Admission to Degree Programmes as specified in Section IV of the University Calendar. The following additional criteria also apply.

All candidates must satisfy the Programme Leader that they are competent to pursue the programme. Candidates must also be approved by the Faculty of Health Sciences. The right to refuse permission shall be reserved to the Programme Leader.

Students must be registered with a professional regulatory body or in the process of completing the undergraduate Improving Access to Psychological Therapies Programme (IAPT).

Students should normally have one year's experience post qualifying, with the exception of those undertaking the IAPT programme.

Students should have evidence of a  recognised academic diploma or be able to demonstrate equivalence.

International students must provide evidence of their ability to communicate effectively in the English language obtaining an IELTS score of 6.5.

In the case of modules approved by Professional Statutory and Regulatory Bodies (PSRB), those PSRBs require each application to be considered individually and a decision will be made based on each individual's circumstances particularly in relation to criminal records and health requirements. The Faculty should be made aware of any health and other problems relevant to your education and training or employment.

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) will be considered on a case by case basis in accordance with the University regulations for prior learning.  Students may apply for RPL for any of the modules they select to study with the exception of module NQCG3116: Enhancing Practice Through Critical Appraisal and Reflection.

The BSc (Hons) Clinical Practice programme consists of modules totalling 60 ECTS (120 CATS) ). For eligibility to register for the programme, students must provide evidence of 120 ECTS (240 CATS)  at level 4 and 5, of which 60 ECTS (120 CATS) must be at level 5.  Details of the entry criteria can be found in the Programme Specification.

2. Structure of Programme(s)

The programme is designed for all health and social care practitioners and normally requires students to be in healthcare practice. Students must take module NQCG3116: Enhancing Practice Through Critical Appraisal and Reflection. Remaining modules can be selected from the FOHS’ provision of continuing professional development level 6 modules and will be informed by individual student and/or work place needs.

The programme may be of full-time or part-time study. The full-time period of study is normally one year, and a minimum of two years/maximum of four years for part-time study.

3. Progression

Standard University Progression regulations do not apply as students undertaking the programme will already have successfully completed the equivalent of the first two years of a BSc (Hons) programme and progressed to the final part. Students may, if necessary, take referral assessments in modules totalling 60 ECTS.

Once selected all modules are core. The pass mark for each is at least 40% and students must meet the pass criteria in both academic and practice experience to pass.  Some modules with PSRB approval may require students to achieve a higher mark to pass.  This is always clearly stated in the module profile.

4. Assessment

Each module will be assessed according to the assessment guidelines within the module profile. Assessments may include written assignments, case studies, critical reports, practical or written examinations, reflective assignments, and a dissertation. In addition, candidates may be required to attend a viva voce examination.

When attending for an examination you must produce either your university ID card or a form of photographic ID in which you are clearly identifiable. Students without photographic ID will not be permitted entry to the examination.

Work submitted up to 5 days after the deadline will be marked as usual.  The final agreed mark is then reduced by the factors detailed in the relevant University Policy: https://sharepoint.soton.ac.uk/sites/ese/quality_handbook/Handbook/Assessment%20Framework.aspx.

5. Award of Qualification(s)

Candidates who have satisfied the examiners and who have accumulated the requisite number of credits shall be awarded a BSc (Honours) clinical Practice in accordance with the University Regulations for Progression, Determination and Classification of Results and the various modifications of these as stated in these programme regulations.

6. Placements/Study Abroad/Exchange/Fieldwork

Not applicable.

7. Other

These regulations may be revised during the student's period of registration in accordance with the procedures approved by Senate.

Compensation
Compensation is not permitted on this programme.
