Reference should be made to the University's General Regulations found in Section IV and Section V (Higher Degree Regulations) of the University Calendar.

Except where an opt-out has been granted by the University (see below) the following academic regulations apply in addition to the General Regulations.

Admissions

1.1	In addition to the University of Southampton Regulations for Admission to Degree Programmes, specific details of admission requirements can be found in the Programme Specifications for the BA programmes or on the University website. Students applying to BA (Hons) Fashion and Textile Design, BA (Hons) Graphic Arts, BA (Hons) Fine Art will be interviewed. The School of Art has exemption from University Regulations pertaining to English Language requirements with an IELTS entry score of 6.0 (with a minimum score of 5.5 in each component) or equivalent. BA (Hons) Fashion Design Dalian and BA (Hons) Graphic Arts Dalian Programmes are taught in both Mandarin and English. The University of Southampton will recruit, through its partner Dalian Polytechnic University, the highest performers in the China National University and College Entrance Examination. Applicants resident in the Province of Liaoning that apply to study the programme are expected to achieve a minimum of 180 points out of 300 in the Provincial Art and Design examination. Non-Province based Chinese Nationals are expected to achieve an equivalent minimum score in their respective Provincial Art and Design examination. A minimum of 90 points is required in the examination of English language for both Province and non-Province based applicants.
1.2	All individuals are selected and treated on their relative merits and abilities in line with the University’s Equal Opportunities Policy. Disabled applicants will be treated according to the same procedure as any other applicant with the added involvement of the Disability Office to assess their needs.
1.3	Accreditation of prior learning. If candidates have completed modules at other places of learning and can demonstrate the equivalence of their learning outcomes to a relevant module of the programme, the School of Art may permit such a candidate to join a degree programme at an appropriate part. Such admissions must also comply with the University's regulations on credit transfer.

Structure of Programme(s)

2.1	Full-time degree programmes normally consist of three years of study. Part-time degrees will normally be taken over a period of six years.
2.2	All modules involved in the undergraduate taught programmes are credit-rated in accordance with the principles contained in the CATS Guide and Regulations; ECTS equivalents are also shown. Details of how CATS arrangements apply to each programme are included in the relevant programme specifications.
2.3	There are three parts of study and each part of study is worth 120 CATS/60 ECTS.
2.4	The programme may specify that certain core modules must be taken.
2.5	Alternative modules will be offered at different times in the programme so as to provide candidate choice; for example, a range of employability-orientated option modules. Selection of such modules by each candidate shall be subject to the prior approval of the Programme Leader. It may not always be possible for a candidate to study a preferred option module due to availability or capacity. In the case of candidate exchange modules and professional experience periods, candidates must apply in advance through a competitive process before undertaking such study, and subsequently have their proposals approved by their Programme Leader before commencement. In addition, such periods of study outside the School are dependent on finding a suitable body that is willing to take the candidate, and that a candidate undertakes any required training before embarking on this element of their studies. Candidates are also required to complete a Health and Safety risk assessment.

Progression

3.1	BA (Hons) Design Elisava does not follow the University progression regulations. The Programmes regulations can be found in the programme specification available through Elisava’s intranet. These regulations are subject to change.
3.2	Student on the BA (Hons) Fashion Design Dalian and BA (Hons) Graphic Arts Dalian Programmes who fail following referral will only have the option to repeat as a full time internal student.

Assessment

4.1	The performance of candidates shall be assessed by the School Assessment Board in accordance with the University's regulations governing assessment for the relevant programme of study.
4.2	A student who fails to progress under paragraphs 3.1 to 3.3 of section 3 of the Progression Regulations in Section IV of the University Calendar may take Referral assessments in failed modules totalling not more than 60 credit points (30 ECTS).
4.3	All the modules on all programmes are core and therefore compensation does not apply.
4.4	Students on the BA (Hons) Fashion Design Dalian and BA (Hons) Graphic Arts Dalian Programmes are able to refer in all failed modules.

Award of Qualification(s)

5.1	There are two exit awards available. Each part of study is worth a total of 120 CATS Credits (60 ECTS). To be eligible to receive these awards the following number of credits is required: Certificate of Higher Education 120 CATS (60 ECTS) Diploma of Higher Education 240 CATS (120 ECTS) with at least 120 CATS [60 ECTS] in Part 2 or 3 Students on BA Graphic Arts, Dalian and BA Fashion Design, Dalian will be required to pass all modules at Part 1 to achieve a Certificate of Higher Education and all modules at Part 1 and 2 to achieve a Diploma of Higher Education.
5.2	The School follows the University's regulations on awards and award classification.
Notification of Results
5.3	The final award is granted by the University of Southampton's Senate on the recommendation of the School Board. It is only awarded to candidates who have satisfactorily completed an approved programme of study and have satisfied the assessment requirements.
5.4	The School follows the University�s regulations and procedures for appeals and complaints.

Placements/Study Abroad/Exchange/Fieldwork

6.1	A candidate exchange may be available as an alternative core module. Candidates will be advised of the considerations and application procedure. Exchanges will be restricted by destination and subject to availability, suitability of the candidate, criteria set by the School and the University, and the requirements of the UK government and the government of the country and region of the host institution; e.g. regarding visas. To be considered, candidates must make a formal application before a deadline that will be specified each year, outlining their reasons for wishing to study at a particular institution and their plans for their work whilst there. Selection is at the discretion of the host institution and the Head of School.
6.2	Exchanges will normally take place in Semester 2 of Part 2 and will be full-time, normally for a period of 12 weeks. Candidates will be expected to participate fully in the programme of the host institution whilst working on a pre-agreed project. Assessment of a candidate's project work will take place on their return to Winchester School of Art. This assessment will not only encompass preparatory and completed work carried out whilst on exchange but, also the contemporary record of the candidates' reflection on their exchange.
Professional Experience
6.3	In Parts 2 and 3, candidates may have opportunities to engage in professional experience subject to availability and the requirements of participating professional organisations. To undertake professional experience, candidates must follow the published Winchester School of Art guidelines on Placements. Suitability for work placement is at the discretion of the Head of School or nominated other. The exact nature of an experience will need to be negotiated with the Module Convenor and based on guidelines that will be outlined.

Other

Attendance and Behaviour
7.1	Candidates are expected to attend all sessions timetabled for their programme, pathway and selected modules. If they are aware that they will be absent for any session, they should inform the relevant Module Tutor immediately.
7.2	In terms of absence through sickness, candidates are permitted to self-certificate for up to five days after which they are encouraged to seek a medical certificate. They should inform their Module Tutor of the circumstances of their illness as soon as possible, and make efforts to make up any work that they have missed.
7.3	In the case of illness persisting for more than five days, candidates should confer with their Programme Leader, if their absence is liable to impact seriously on their study.
7.4	In the case of absence arising from other causes, for example bereavement, illness of a dependant, etc., candidates should contact their Module Tutors as soon as possible to alert them to these developments, confer with them and, when appropriate, the Programme Leader, regarding ameliorating the effects of the absence on their study.
7.5	In accordance with the university�s regulations on attendance, student participation in the programme of study will be subject to periodic monitoring.
7.6	Whilst studying at the School of Art whether on its campus, on visits, whilst on exchange or professional experience or via online facilities including email, candidates should act in a manner which is appropriate to the highest professional standards with particular attention to avoiding behaviour which lessens the study experience of their fellow candidates. Candidates falling below these standards of behaviour are liable to be called to account by their Module Tutors, Programme Leader, the Deputy Heads or the Head of School and asked to reflect on their continued study at the School.

7.7	These regulations may be revised during the student's period of registration in accordance with the procedures approved by Senate.
