- The degree of Master of Research (MRes) may be awarded by the Senate to postgraduate students who have satisfactorily completed not less than 12 months' full time study as prescribed by the Faculty concerned and the regulations in Section IV of this Calendar.
- Every candidate shall be allocated to a supervisor by the Associate Dean with Faculty responsibility for graduate student matters concerned or his/her nominee(s), and approved by the Faculty Programmes Committee . The supervisor shall direct and advise the candidate in his/her studies and report on his/her work and progress when asked to do so by the Faculty Programmes Committee .
- The regulations for each programme shall prescribe the written examinations to be taken and shall provide for the examination of dissertations or other assessed work. Candidates shall present themselves for written examinations and shall submit assessed work as required, and shall present a dissertation on their individual project in accordance with the document The Production and Submission of Postgraduate Masters Degree Dissertations (available to candidates through the Quality Handbook), and with Faculty requirements. Candidates may also be required to attend for an oral examination. In conducting the oral examination, arrangements will be made where necessary to accommodate the requirements of students with special communication needs.
