Reference should be made to the University's General Regulations found in Section IV and Section V (Higher Degree Regulations) of the University Calendar.
Except where an opt-out has been granted by the University (see below) the following academic regulations apply in addition to the General Regulations.
1. |
Admissions |
Specific entry criteria are detailed in the Programme Specifications. |
2. |
Structure of Programme(s) |
The structure of the programme is set out in the Programme Specification. All Part I modules are core. The Individual Project in Part III and the Group Design Project in Part IV are also core.
Students who transfer from an MEng programme to a BEng programme will not normally be permitted to transfer back to a MEng programme. An exception to this rule is made for those students who enrol for Part III in October 2011. |
3. |
Progression |
Students must normally complete each Part successfully before progressing to the next. A candidate not achieving the required standard may refer according to the regulations set out in the University’s progression rules (section IV of the Calendar).
In addition, candidates on MEng programmes enrolling for Part II in October 2011 or subsequently are required to achieve an average mark of 55% in Part II and 55% in Part III.
Candidates who completed Part II prior to October 2011 are required to achieve an average mark of 55% in Part II and 52% in Part III. |
4. |
Assessment |
Assessment of examinations and coursework is in accordance with University regulations (see University Calendar Section IV).
When students repeat modules externally, it may be impractical for them to undertake the normal assessment activities, for example assessed laboratory or group work. In such cases they will be provided with an alternative but equivalent form of assessment which will meet the required learning outcomes. |
5. |
Award of Qualification(s) |
The final award is awarded by Senate on the recommendation of the Examination Board to candidates who have satisfactorily completed an approved course of study and have satisfied the assessment requirements as detailed in the regulations and the Programme Specification. |
6. |
Placements/Study Abroad/Exchange/Fieldwork |
Details are given in the Programme Specification. Candidates wishing to follow themes involving study abroad may be required to take additional foreign language modules. Their performance on the assessments of these modules will not affect their progression on the programme, but may affect whether they can remain on the theme involving study abroad. |
7. |
Other |
These regulations may be revised during the student's period of registration in accordance with the procedures approved by Senate.
Candidates are required to satisfy the academic and attendance requirements of the programme as laid out in the Programme Specification and the Student Handbook for the programme. Those failing to do so may have their course terminated. |
