University Calendar 2012/13 Section VIII : Academic Regulations - Faculty of Engineering and the Environment

Except where an opt-out has been granted by the University (see below) the following academic regulations apply in addition to the General Regulations.

Admissions

Eligibility
The programme is open to students of any nationality, subject to visa requirements. The standard University English Language requirements apply.

Standard academic requirements
Standard entry requirements are a 2:1 degree from a British University or equivalent overseas. First degree subjects would normally be in an appropriate numerate scientific or engineering discipline.

Structure of Programme(s)

Mode of attendance and duration
The programme is available for full-time study, normally with a duration of 12 months, or part-time study, normally over a period of up to 5 years. The research project is usually conducted at the University but may, by agreement, be conducted elsewhere, for example in a company.

Options
There are no core modules. Any combination of modules listed in the Programme Specification may be taken to a total of 120 credit points subject to the stated module prerequisites.

Progression

Standard University progression rules for postgraduate taught awards apply.

Students must normally complete the taught component of the programme successfully before progressing to the research project.

A candidate not achieving the required standard may refer according to the regulations set out in the University’s progression rules (section IV of the Calendar)

Assessment

Award of Qualification(s)

The final award is awarded by Senate on the recommendation of the Examination Board to candidates who have satisfactorily completed an approved course of study and have satisfied the assessment requirements.

Students can elect to graduate with the degree titles MSc/PG Dip in Engineering Acoustics, MSc/PG Dip in Applied Digital Signal Processing or MSc/PG Dip in Structural Dynamics, subject to completion of appropriate modules as detailed in the Programme Specification.

Placements/Study Abroad/Exchange/Fieldwork

Not applicable.

Other

These regulations may be revised during the student's period of registration in accordance with the procedures approved by Senate.

Candidates are required to satisfy the academic and attendance requirements of the programme as laid out in the Programme Specification and the Student Handbook for the programme. Those failing to do so may have their course terminated.
