Research and Enterprise Committee

Terms of reference

The committee considers all strategic and policy aspects of Research and Enterprise, bringing forward proposals in these areas to UEG and advising UEG on related matters. The work of the Committee is supported by four operational groups in the areas of Research, Enterprise, Ethics, which reports directly to UEG, and Research Governance.
  1. To bring forward strategic and policy proposals to UEG in all areas of research and enterprise.

  2. To maintain an oversight of, and monitor, the implementation of research and enterprise policies and the Conflicts of Interest Policy using, where appropriate, benchmarks agreed by UEG, and to report thereon to UEG.

  3. To advise UEG on matters relating to the University's policy for research and enterprise, including the exploitation of the University's intellectual property base, and on the deployment of resources for such purposes.

  4. To lead the University's response to national assessments, initiatives and consultations in the areas of research, and enterprise and innovation.

  5. To foster and enhance the University's relationship with key external agencies funding research and enterprise.

  6. To allocate funds within the budget allocated to support research-related activities and to receive reports on the use of these funds.

  7. To keep under review the financial and other implications of externally supported research.

  8. To advise UEG on emerging risks and other matters in the area of research and enterprise.
Note: The Research and Enterprise Committee (REC) will receive reports from the Graduate Schools Committee. Both the REC and the Education Committee will consider and report on postgraduate issues as appropriate.

Note: The Faculty lead and the Head of Consultancy Development within RIS will be in attendance at meetings.
