Education Committee

The Committee develops policy and strategy in the area of Education and acts as an advisory body to UEG. The Education, Enterprise and Employer Engagement Group and the Foundation Steering Group report to the Education Committee. The latter group will also report to the Academic Quality and Standards Committee.

Terms of reference
  1. To bring forward strategic and policy proposals to UEG in the areas of learning and teaching, assessment and widening participation.

  2. To maintain an oversight of, and monitor, the implementation of the Learning and Teaching Enhancement Strategy and education policies using, where appropriate, benchmarks agreed by UEG, and to report thereon to UEG.

  3. To lead the University's response to national assessments, initiatives and consultations in the area of education.

  4. To liaise and, where appropriate, make recommendations to:

    • the Academic Quality and Standards Committee; and

    • the Human Resources Committee on professional development activities for staff who teach or who support learning, criteria for the reward of high quality teaching and learning support, and staff development for enhancing research supervision.

  5. To advise UEG on learning resources, collaborative links with other providers of education, emerging risks and other matters in education.
Note: Both the Education Committee and the Research and Enterprise Committee will consider and report on postgraduate issues as appropriate.

  Chair: The Pro Vice-Chancellor with the Education portfolio
  The Director of the Learning and Teaching Enhancement Unit
  A lay member of Council
  The Pro Vice-Chancellor with the Recruitment and Admissions portfolio
  An Associate Dean from each Faculty (appointed by the Dean concerned)
   
  Two members from each Faculty (appointed by the Dean concerned)
  The Director of Student Services
  The Director of Student Administration and Registry
  The University Librarian (or nominee)
  The University Director who leads on e-learning
  The Chair of Academic Quality and Standards Committee
  Three representatives of the Students' Union (UG, PGI, PGR), two of whom should be the Vice-President (Education) and the Postgraduate Officer of the Students' Union
