- The institutions accredited by the University are:
The University of Chichester1
The University of Winchester2
These institutions are accredited by the University with effect from 1 August 1992 to offer taught courses leading to University of Southampton qualifications under arrangements governed by an Instrument of Accreditation.
- The approval and provision of Certificates, Degrees and Diplomas of the University in the Accredited Institutions are governed by the Instrument of Accreditation and such Statutes, Ordinances and Regulations as are relevant. For the purpose of these Statutes, Ordinances and Regulations the Academic Board of the Institution and its Chair shall act in the same capacity as a Board of a School and the Head of School thereof. The Handbook of Accreditation, which is approved and amended from time to time by the Senate, sets out the responsibilities of the Accredited Institutions under the terms of the Instrument of Accreditation and the procedures to be followed. The Handbook, which is available from the Learning and Teaching Enhancement Unit, has the status of University Regulations.
Note
1 The University of Chichester received taught degree awarding powers in 1999 and was granted University status in 2005, therefore only the research degrees continue to be accredited.
2 The University of Winchester received degree awarding powers in July 2003 and was granted University status in 2005. The University of Southampton will cease accrediting taught programmes at the University of Winchester at the end of the academic year 2007/08, after which only the research degrees will continue to be accredited.
