Regulations for the Certificate in Business Administration
Admission
- There are no formal entry requirements, but candidates must demonstrate:
- significant experience of a managed organisational environment (this may include experience in charities, clubs and families for those returning to work, as well as more conventional work environments);
- a willingness to undertake the required self-development;
- an ability to devote sufficient time to private study and assessed work;
- an ability to cope with sustained academic work.
All candidates will be interviewed. Two references will be required to comment on the above factors.
Scheme of Study
- The scheme of study will comprise of lectures and other course work.
- A candidate is required to undertake the scheme of study over a period of not less than three terms of part-time study and normally not more than two years of part-time study, from first registration.
Examinations
- All components of the scheme of study will be examined during and/or at the end of the period of study as specified by the College Board.
- Examination shall be based on satisfactory completion of group class work, the assessment of three assignments and a report on a project.
- On successful completion of the units and the three assignments, a candidate shall undertake further study and submit a report on a project. The report shall be submitted not later than two years from the date of first registration. In exceptional cases, the College Board may approve a later date for the submission of the report on a project.
- A candidate who fails to satisfactorily complete any unit on the first occasion will normally be permitted to repeat the unit within a time prescribed by the College Board.
- A candidate who fails to satisfy the examiners in any assignment or the project on the first occasion will normally be permitted to re-submit in a form and by a date prescribed by the College Board.
Exemptions
- Exemptions of up to 2 units may be granted to candidates on the basis of imported credits or prior learning approved by the Board of the College for that purpose.
Award
- The Certificate in Business Administration of the University of Southampton (Cert BA Soton) is awarded by Senate on the recommendation of the College Board to a candidate who has satisfactorily completed the scheme of study and passed the examinations prescribed. The Certificate may be awarded with a Merit or Distinction.
