Regulations for the Postgraduate Certificate in Neuromusculoskeletal Physiotherapy Admission
  1. Candidates for admission must satisfy the Regulations for Admission to Degree Courses as specified in Section IV of the General Regulations. In addition, the normal requirement for entry to the course is a first degree in physiotherapy (or diploma equivalent) and relevant postgraduate experience in physiotherapy practice.

  2. Candidates will be registered for a Certificate in Neuromusculoskeletal Physiotherapy.

Approved Course of Study

  1. The Certificate course consists of 24 M level credits, which is made up of 120 contact hours and 120 directed study hours, to be completed within one semester. The initial month will be full-time study followed by one month directed study and an assessment after a further 2 weeks.

  2. The taught component will consist of a mixture of lectures, practical sessions and small group tutorials. This will be followed by a period of directed study during which the students will complete a written assignment prior to examination. The course will be taught by the course co-ordinators and other suitably qualified professionals appropriate to the field of study being presented.

Assessment

  1. Candidates for the Certificate will be required to undertake an independent 4,000 word case study assignment to be submitted one month following the full-time component. This will be followed 2 weeks later by a 45 minute viva voce examination.

  2. The pass mark for the Certificate is 50%. The proportion and weighting is 60% for the written case study and 40% for the viva voce examination.

Award of Qualification

  1. Candidates who have attended the course satisfactorily, who have satisfied the Examiners of the course and have therefore accumulated the requisite number of credits at M level, will be awarded the relevant qualification i.e. Certificate in Neuromusculoskeletal Physiotherapy. The Certificate is awarded as a pass Certificate.

Reassessment

  1. Candidates who fail shall normally have the right to one further opportunity to satisfy the Examiners at the next normal examination opportunity.

  2. Any further opportunity to satisfy the Examiners after the second attempt shall be at the discretion of the Faculty of Medicine, Health and Biological Sciences and shall only be accorded in exceptional circumstances.
