Regulations for the Postgraduate Certificate in Statistics
- The Department of Mathematics and the Department of Social Statistics jointly offer a course leading to the Postgraduate Certificate in Statistics. All matters concerned with the course and with the admission and progress of candidates are dealt with by a Board of Studies consisting of members of the two Departments. For convenience all matters relating to the course which require the approval of Senate shall be reported to Senate by the Board of the Faculty of Mathematical Studies and in the following regulations any reference to a Faculty Board shall be taken as meaning the Board of that Faculty.
- The requirement for entry to the course shall be an honours degree of any approved university. Candidates with other qualifications approved by the Board of Studies may be admitted by the Faculty Board.
- The course shall consist of three terms of full-time study or six terms of part-time study. In either case the course shall commence in September.
- The scheme of study shall consist of lectures, seminars and prescribed coursework.
- Candidates shall present themselves for written examinations at such times as may be prescribed by the Board of Studies but normally examinations will be held at the end of each semester.
- Candidates who satisfy the examiners in the written examinations and in the prescribed coursework will be recommended to Senate for the award of the Postgraduate Certificate in Statistics, which may be awarded with Distinction.
- With the permission of the Faculty Board a candidate failing to satisfy the examiners may, on one subsequent occasion, sit a supplementary examination on a date to be specified by the Faculty Board.
